My clinical work focuses on several key components: The therapeutic relationship, trust and collaboration, strengthsbased focus, and holistic perspective. I believe it is crucial to understand a client (individual, couple, or family) in their full life context. Taking into account clients’ strengths, resources, key relationships, and aspirations, I enjoy utilizing these aspects to help clients develop a focus of treatment that is relevant, appropriate, and effective.
My style is warm, compassionate, genuine, flexible, and collaborative. I utilize humor, directness, and focus on desired results. I am especially attuned to teens and young adults, understanding many of the unique challenges that today’s world presents. I am particularly interested in how technology influences day-to-day wellness, understanding the benefits and limitations of electronic connectivity.
My instructional work at WMU School of Social Work provides unique opportunities to understand and integrate current research and clinical ingenuity. I especially enjoy my collaborative work with colleagues and students, providing new and exciting perspectives. I consider myself a life-long learner.
I greatly value working with family systems. The influence of families cannot be overestimated, and I enjoy the collaborative and holistic perspective that family system work offers. Finding common ground, mutual goals, and creating explicit agreements within family systems are often key to client success and well-being.
My enthusiasm and enjoyment of clinical work is evident in everything I do. I love the balance that clinical practice and classroom instruction provides. My two passions compliment one another extremely well. I look forward to working with you, and creating a therapeutic focus that will yield long-term results.
